A Non-Sarcastic Special Thanks

to the Amish for avoiding vengeance and retribution for the murder of your daughters. Your behavior certainly makes Christianity look good (if you forget the Inquisition, the 100 years war, the Crusades, etc.). It is good to see that sometimes religion can lead to peace and mercy, rather than punishment and shame.

Also, what’s with this explosion of child sexual abuse and child killing in recent days? Could it be our obsession with children and terror that makes child sexual abuse the perfect nexus of attention? All domestic media-hype stories seem to have a child sexual abuse element to them: Michael Jackson, Jon Benet, all the freakin’ Amber alerts (I believe poor Amber was abused and killed.), the Catholic priest child abuse scandals, the snowballing pogrom/witch-hunt of furloughed child-molesters all over the country and the recent marriage of child-molestation with the functions of government in the Tom Foley scandal!

Could we perhaps be demonizing and persecuting child abusers so much, that we may be driving them to commit such ghastly acts as this week’s massacre in Nickel Mines, PA?

On the other hand, could God himself be responsible for the violence? Could the knowledge of the laws of God be driving child-abusers to suicide for their supremely immoral inclinations? And they (the child-abusers) lash out in one last gasp of freedom to express their perversities before plunging into the eternal damnation they know they deserve?
